About Us

Friends of Colwick Woods volunteer group was formed by local residents in April 2004. We work closely with Nottingham City Council. The aim of the group is to protect, enhance and promote Colwick Woods as an important local resource for the benefit of the community and its natural habitat.

Gala Day 2013 - Sunday 7th July, 12-4pm

Well, its nearly time for the annual Gala Day - Sunday 7th July, put the date in your diary, keep your fingers crossed for fine weather and come and join us for a fun filled day.

We have such a lot of things all for your enjoyment, live music, belly dancers, dog agility, pony rides which will be at the pavilion, near the children's playground (which is also where the toilets are), face painting, blood guts and gore who does amazing lifelike 'wounds' on people, the Vikings will be there as usual with their camp and the Crusader Bowmen where you can have a go with a bow and arrow yourselves. There will be lots of lovely stalls including some charity stalls such as Riding for the Disabled and Lincs, Essex and Trent Boxer rescue who will have some lovely dog related things on sale, fancy dog biscuit stalls, lovely plants and jewellery, craft things, the WI will also have their usual stall with cakes etc. Please come and support them.

Then 'Roll up, Roll up' come and pays your pound, pick your number and take a prize home, there's a prize every time on our ever popular tombola, star prize is the sterling silver and garnet ring which was not won at the Stargazing night and has been carried forward to the gala, but even if you don't get the star prize, we still have some wonderful prizes to be won - ha ha, also a booby prize!!! There is also a separate one for children.

We know there are lots of dog walkers in the area, so this time we are also including a fun dog show, there is a class for everyone. Its £1 a class. Proceeds to go to FOCW.

Entries are being taken on the day from 12 noon. The classes are:-

1) Pedigree puppy - Non sporting

2) Pedigree puppy - Sporting

3) Pedigree open - Non sporting

4) Pedigree open - Sporting

Then there are some fun classes

5) Dog with the waggyist tail

6) Best 6 legs

7) Dog the judge would like to take home

8) Best lookalike dog and owner - ha ha hope I don't look like my dog!!

9) Best condition

10) Best Fancy dress
