Last year was the first time we held a Winter Festival where we did Christmas wreaths and children's crafts. To say it was the first time we had done it, it was really well attended.
We had some lovely comments afterwards and people said they wanted us to organise it again this year, so we have.
It is to be held on Sunday 7th December between 12 - 3pm at the old bowling green pavilion on Greenwood Road, opposite the Academy, just up from the children's playground.
We will be showing how to make wreaths for the door or grave and the children will be making cards or taking part in other crafts.
Admission to the site is free but if you want to take part, it is £2 each for children's crafts and £3 for a wreath.
Come along and make something nice to take home with you.
There will also be light refreshments available, tea, coffee, squash, cakes etc and some wonderful hot fruit punch.
Jo's Grows will also be there with her home made jams and preserves, always popular especially with Christmas coming up, nice for presents.
Wrap up warm and wear sensible shoes because it is under cover of our marquees but on grass. The children's crafts will be inside the main building.
Children must be accompanied by adults.
Hope to see you there,

'Didn't we have a lovely time the day we went to..........the gala' as the song goes - ha ha well nearly!!
Wasn't it a fantastic day? The weather was brilliant again, sun shining all day, not a lot of wind. Everyone seemed to have such a great time.
The event was opened by Paddy Tipping accompanied by the local Boys Brigade band who did a great job.
We had some nice stalls selling all manner of things, cakes, plants, preserves, jewellery food etc and not forgetting the archery - thank you all for turning up.
The dog show was a great success thanks to Carol and her team, of Lincs Essex and Trent Boxer rescue who took over the running of it this year, it was a bit of an uphill struggle at first when they had to go round the field accosting people with dogs to get them to enter but it was worth it in the end, people were going away with lovely prizes kindly donated by Kennelgate. One of the best things about it too was that they raised some much needed money for their rescue. We have since had lots of comments from people walking their dogs on the field saying how much they enjoyed it. Thanks again, looking forward to you doing it again next year.
Dogs were also catered for by an agility course run by Paws and Feet who do dog training on the Bowling Green site every Saturday morning.
Again, the tombola was very popular, we almost sold out of the many prizes we had.
We had bands and entertainment such as Dante's daughters belly dancers, English Combat and White Tigers Kick Boxing, on throughout the event, more than we have had in previous years and everyone seemed to love it.
All in all it was a great family day out, we would like to thank all the public who came to support us, because of you, we were able to raise some much needed funds to carry on our work of improving the facilities and making it a better place for everyone.
We would especially like to thank the volunteers who turned up to help us on the day and the organising team. A particularly big thank you to Steve of the Park Rangers Department who always gives up his day off to come and help and also arranges for the loan of some of their marquees. Steve, you are a star!! Thank you so much.
All that leaves me to say now is.....see you next year!!

Well, who would believe its our 10th anniversary of the Gala Day?
All the plans are now finalised.
As you can see from the poster on the front page, there will be a lot to see and do.
It will be opened by Paddy Tipping at 12pm, accompanied by the Boys Brigade band.
There will be a variety of live music all day. Lots of stalls, including home made cakes, jewellery, plants and preserves and refreshments.
The belly dancers - Dantes daughters - are always a great hit, they will be on twice during the afternoon.
English combat will be giving a couple of displays, these were a great attraction last year.
The every popular Crusader Bowmen will be there again if you fancy having a go at being Robin Hood.
We have a terrific dog show planned, entries will be from 12 o'clock and judging starts at 1pm. There is a notice below giving the classes. The prizes have been kindly donated by Kennelgate. You can get an entry form on the day or pick one up from Angela's Creations on Greenwood Road.
Dogs will also be able to have fun taking part in some agilty where they can again win prizes. This is being run by the dog trainers - Paws and Feet - who have classes on a regular basis at the Old Bowling green on the site.
This year there is a new attraction - a fancy hat competition open to all ages, male and female.
As always we will be having our fabulous tombola with a prize every time including a star prize which this year is - a pair of Sterling Silver earings with real emeralds, and of course our booby prize ha ha.
Come and read about the history of Colwick Woods and look at our wonderful display of photos and speak to our historian Ray who has a wealth of knowledge and loves talking about the subject. There will also be a guided walk around our beautiful woods if anyone wants to take part - wear suitable footwear.
Our membership stall will also be there, membership is only £2 a person or £5 for a family of 4.
We would love to see you there. Come along and join in the fun - bring lots of money!!!!

We are still in the organising stages of it at the moment so not a lot to say except that it is our 10th year of running this and we hope to make it a particularly big one.

Well, what fun that was!!
We had a good turn out of people wanting to make wreaths and everyone seemed to go home happy with what they had made. There were some really nice ones and we had some lovely comments. One lady who had been there with her two children, who all made wreaths, said, "We have been here an hour and a half and have thoroughly enjoyed ourselves", another lady said that last year she had been disappointed with one she made somewhere else locally which cost a lot more than our £2, so she gave us an extra donation.
The children also enjoyed themselves and came out with some beautiful things they had made, some lovely tree decorations made out of cones with glitter and raffia and lovely cards which would have put many shop bought cards to shame. Thank you so
much to Jackie and Sandie who stepped in at the last minute when our craft tutor had to bow out due to ill health - you are both stars!!
The hot fruit punch went down a storm, freshly made, it was really nice and warming.
Fresh, locally made mince pies and cakes were also available.
We had a lovely stall there, Jo's Grows, which is popular at our Gala Day, selling home made jams and preserves, made mainly from local produce. Thanks Jo.
Angela from Angela's Creations, Greenwood road was also there with some lovely hand made jewellery.
Everyone was laughing and joking and it was so nice to see families doing things together.
We were very pleased that as it was the first time we had done this, it was so well attended and such an enjoyable event, both for the public and ourselves.
I would like to thank all our volunteers who gave their time to make it the success it was and also the public for coming to support us. Without you, we would not have had an event.
We will be putting some photos in the gallery shortly.

Our next event is a new one for us. We hope you will attend and make it as successful as the Gala Day.
We are holding it at the Old Bowling Green on Greenwood Road, on Sunday December 8th between 12-3pm, see the poster for full details.
This is more of an activity based event. We will be making Christmas wreaths either for the door or for on graves and there will be craft making activities for children - children must be accompanied by adults.
There will be a few stalls but the main purpose is that people can make things and have stuff to take home with them. Entry to the site will be free but if you want to take part in making things, there will be a charge of £2 for adults and £1 for each child.
There will be our usual popular tombola stall where you pay £1 but get a prize every time and refreshments.
Hopefully the new playground next door will be open by then.
Please wrap up warmly as the wreath making will be taking place outside (under cover). The children's crafts will be in the pavilion.
If anyone has any conifers or variegated/blue/gold/silver evergreen shrubs that they can spare any prunings of, we would much appreciate them. (We are ok for holly and ivy.) Either contact Angela at Angela's Creations hairdressers on Greenwood Road or Liz on 07721912382.
Thanks, hope to see you there.
